Sand Arts Festival
45th Anniversary
5"x 3"x 8" sculpture titled Van Goh's Fish
Hand-painted silk fabric with acrylic; braided metal armature.
Participating in the 2024 Sand Arts Festival was a turning point in my artistic career, as this was the project that expanded my horizons from 2D to 3D art. Sculpting the armature of this fish from braided wire was one of the most physically consuming tasks I'd done so far, and consequentially one of the most rewarding.
I did not expect to win the 45th Anniversary Award; signing up for this project was out of excitement for the excuse to work large scale. My gratitude goes out to Kelly Boehmer, Michael Flynn, and Chuck Carbia, for being such influential mentors throughout my process.
